A useful carpentry request identifies the component, its condition and the result you want. We discuss the repair and finishing scope before agreeing the work.
For the adjoining finish, review exterior painting, interior painting or drywall repair.
Plan the work around your project.
Open the topics that matter to your surfaces and how the space is used.
Identify the wood component.
Tell us whether the request concerns interior trim, paneling, an exterior wood detail, a soffit section or another component. Send a wide view showing where the part sits, then close-ups of the damaged edge, joint or surface. Include approximate measurements and any known material or profile.
Explain what prompted the request: a damaged piece, a loose detail, an unfinished area or a change you want to make. A close-up alone may not show how the part joins its surroundings. Custom furniture, new cabinetry and complete deck or structural construction are not inferred from a general carpentry enquiry.
Discuss repair versus replacement.
Show affected sections, earlier repairs and the adjoining material. Mention known moisture or damage history. The actual condition helps establish whether the request is a local repair, replacing an agreed part or work that needs a wider assessment. Coating damaged wood is not a substitute for reviewing the underlying problem.
If a piece is to be replaced, discuss dimensions, profile, joins and the parts that remain. An exact match to every old detail is not guaranteed before the material is reviewed. The exposed soffit photographs show a real wood section in our portfolio; they do not establish a structural repair method for your property.
Define the finish around the repair.
Identify whether the repaired or replaced part should be painted, stained or left for another finishing arrangement. Share the existing color or product information if known. The visible part and adjacent paint boundary may need different decisions.
INSPIRE offers painting and staining/sealing alongside carpentry, with actual tasks agreed in the estimate. A wood repair does not automatically include repainting a whole elevation or room. Drywall repairs and cabinet coating have their own scope, so mention them separately if the project involves those surfaces too.
Plan access before the work starts.
Send views of the work area, including its height and the space around it. Exterior details may be beside gutters, roofs, landscaping or a narrow access route. Interior parts may sit above furniture, next to fixed cabinets or around a doorway that remains in use.
Describe what can move and what needs protection. Tell us about other work at the address and any required sequence before finishing. Access and protection are reviewed for the actual task; one small-looking detail does not establish the time or equipment needed.
Put the repair brief in one request.
Send your city, ZIP or postal code, full project address, component list, photographs, approximate measurements and known material or damage history. Explain the appearance you want and whether painting or staining belongs in the same request. Flag any suspected structural or continuing moisture issue separately.
We discuss scope and conditions by phone before work is agreed. The estimate identifies the parts, repair or replacement boundaries and finishing included. The portfolio includes exposed exterior wood and interior panel preparation; filling marks in a painted panel are not presented as proof of a new panel installation.

What we can include.
- Specified wood components and condition reviewed before agreement
- Repair or replacement boundaries for agreed parts
- Material, profile and adjacent finishes discussed
- Access and protection around the work area
- Painting or staining/sealing where included in the estimate
We confirm the surfaces, materials and timing in your estimate.

Look closely at the part and its surroundings.
Two exterior wood details and a separate interior panel-preparation example. The photographs show visible components, without assigning a repair method or unverified project location.

Identify the component.
Show the wood detail beside adjoining roofline or wall surfaces.
Wood soffit detail beside the existing red trim.

Agree the repair boundary.
Dimensions and surrounding joins help define the part to review before finishing.
An unpainted soffit patch.

Separate preparation from installation.
This interior example shows surface filling on panels, not evidence of a new panel installation.
Panel preparation with the floor protected.
Wood details belong to a wider finish plan.
An exposed soffit section and later exterior views from the gray-brick project. The wide finish photographs give context; they are not a close-up guarantee of a particular repair outcome.

Before we start.
Planning your project? Here is what to discuss at your estimate.
Photos from INSPIRE's own project portfolio. Project locations are shown only where confirmed. Explore more of our work.
Can carpentry and painting be included in one estimate?
Yes. Identify the wood parts and the surfaces to finish. The estimate specifies the repair or replacement and the painting or staining included.
Will a replacement trim piece match the old profile exactly?
Send close-ups and dimensions of the existing detail. Material, profile and matching requirements need review before an exact replacement can be promised.
Does a wood repair address the cause of dampness or decay?
A visible repair alone does not establish that the underlying cause is resolved. Explain any known moisture or recurring damage so the scope can be assessed before finishing.
Do the photos show new paneling installation?
The lounge pictures show panel preparation and a later painted finish. They are not presented as proof that new paneling was installed. The exterior album includes an exposed wood soffit section.
What should I send for a carpentry estimate?
Send your city and ZIP or postal code, project address, component and desired result, whole-area photos, close-ups, approximate dimensions, known material or damage history and the finish you want.
