Siding, trim, doors and brick, with cleaning and repairs planned first. Tell us what should change or stay.
Exterior painting starts with a surface list: siding, masonry, trim and doors to coat, and materials to preserve. Cleaning, repairs and access belong in the same project conversation.
Explore power washing and carpentry for related preparation tasks.
Plan the work around your project.
Open the topics that matter to your surfaces and how the space is used.
List the surfaces to change or preserve.
Look at each side of the house and list the siding, brick, trim, fascia, soffits, windows and doors you want considered. A house can look coordinated without every material receiving the same coating or color. Identify brick, roofing, stone, hardware and other details that should remain untouched.
Send full elevations and closer photographs of worn areas, alongside any known siding material or existing paint information. Wood, masonry and metal details can need different preparation and coating decisions. A material name alone does not settle suitability, particularly where the current surface is damaged or already coated.
Include cleaning and repairs.
Cleaning, loose coating, bare edges and damaged wood should be discussed before the new finish. Show peeling areas, open joints and any boards or trim that need attention. Power washing and carpentry are available alongside painting, with the actual tasks and repair boundaries included where agreed.
Cleaning is selected for the surface and its condition; a single pressure or chemical recipe is not applied to every material. The recent photographs below show exterior washing, an unpainted soffit patch and protected windows from separate portfolio projects. They demonstrate preparation tasks without claiming that paint alone resolves a leak, rot source or underlying building problem.
Choose colors around the materials that stay.
Consider siding and trim beside the roof, brick, stone, driveway and neighboring colors you will continue to see. A front door or garage-door finish can change the emphasis without coating all the masonry. INSPIRE offers color consultation, so your ideas can be discussed in the actual exterior context.
If your property has association requirements or an approval process, share them before the color and timing are agreed. This guide does not assert one local approval rule for every Michigan location. Our recent project images show different finish boundaries, including a gray-brick exterior with white trim and a separate gray-sided house whose brick chimney remains visible.
Schedule around surface and coating readiness.
The proposed surface must be ready after preparation and cleaning. Moisture, the substrate, temperature and conditions during application and drying matter; suitable requirements depend on the selected coating. A dry-looking forecast alone does not establish that a washed surface is ready to paint.
We discuss preferred timing and project conditions by phone. There is no fixed statewide painting season, universal waiting time after washing or weather-proof start date promised on this page. If preparation reveals more repairs or conditions change, the work sequence needs to be reviewed before coating proceeds.
Plan access, protection and your estimate.
Point out upper elevations, narrow side yards, slopes, planting beds, pets and entrances that remain in use. Include adjacent surfaces to protect and any separate contractor work that could affect the painting. Access is part of the estimate, particularly where upper trim or details cannot be reviewed from a single front photograph.
Send the project address, city and ZIP or postal code, material list, overall and detail photos, desired colors and preferred timing for a free estimate. INSPIRE Painting is based in Sterling Heights and offers exterior painting in the confirmed locations represented by our service-area pages. The agreed estimate defines the coating, preparation and repair scope for your actual property.

What we can include.

- Cleaning and existing-coating preparation for reviewed materials
- Bare areas, primer and coating system addressed in the estimate

Preparation has several different tasks.
Recent portfolio views show exterior washing and an unpainted soffit patch on the gray-brick project, plus masked windows on a separate siding project. Each task is identified without treating different houses as one sequence.

Review cleaning for the surface.
This worker is washing a brick exterior. The surface condition and the proposed coating guide the cleaning plan for an individual project.
Washing the light brick exterior.

Identify repairs before the finish.
An unpainted wood patch is visible beneath the gutter. Show damaged trim and adjoining surfaces so any carpentry scope can be agreed before coating.
An unpainted soffit patch.

Protect the surfaces that stay.
The separate gabled-house project shows windows and adjoining trim edges masked while exterior work is in progress.
Window and trim protection during exterior painting preparation.
See the exterior work at different stages.
These views belong to the same gabled-house portfolio group: masked front elevations, siding and trim with equipment present, and a clear front view. They do not claim a project location or a guaranteed finish life.

Photos from INSPIRE's own project portfolio. Project locations are shown only where confirmed. Explore more of our work.
Can you repaint trim and siding while leaving brick unchanged?
Yes. Identify surfaces to coat and those to preserve so the protection and preparation boundaries are clear. Different materials and existing finishes are reviewed separately before the estimate is agreed.
Can exterior wood repairs be included with painting?
Carpentry is available alongside painting. Show the damaged trim or siding and surrounding area so the repair or replacement scope can be discussed. Painting by itself does not resolve every underlying cause of damage.
How long after washing can the exterior be painted?
Surface readiness depends on the material, moisture and conditions, with the selected coating requirements considered. There is no fixed number of hours that fits every washed surface or weather condition.
Does the forecast affect the painting date?
It can. Surface condition and conditions during application and drying are reviewed against the coating instructions. We discuss the actual project before confirming timing, and changing conditions can affect the sequence.
What if my house was built before 1978?
Tell us the building age and any known lead-paint information before disturbing an old coating. Preparation may need additional assessment and applicable lead-safe requirements. The proposed work and any required qualifications need to be reviewed before the project is agreed.
What affects the exterior-painting estimate?
The surfaces, existing coating, preparation, repair areas, height, access, protection and chosen finish affect the scope. Send full elevations, close-ups, the project address and desired timing for a free estimate.
